Irving Roy Stoddard, 85, died March 24, 2017 at Heritage Manor in Chisholm. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the St. James Presbyterian Church in Tower. A visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the Church.

Irv was born on April 25, 1931 to Roy and Vivian (St. Jean) Stoddard in Soudan, where he grew up and graduated from Tower-Soudan High School. His parents owned and operated Glenwood Lodge on Lake Vermilion where he worked alongside his parents. He graduated from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, majoring in industrial psychology. He served as second lieutenant in the US Army during the Korean War at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

He married Iona Tracy on April 3, 1971 in Sioux City. They built their home on Lake Vermilion, where they lived for 30 years.

Irv was a long-time member of St. James Presbyterian Church, Tower, where he served as an elder and sang in the choir. Irv was a member of the American Legion Post 245 and the Masonic Lodge #264 AF and AM. Irv worked for US Steel as a general foreman at Duluth Works until it closed when he was transferred to Minntac, where he worked as a foreman until his retirement in 1984. He also worked in construction, insurance sales, the sporting goods business and was a caretaker for friends and neighbors on Lake Vermilion for many years. Irv enjoyed the outdoors, especially taking many memorable trips into Trout Lake.

Irv is survived by his wife, Tracy, Hibbing; by three sons: Craig (Paula) Stoddard, Angora; Peter (Patti) Stoddard, Lake Vermilion, Tower; and Christian Grandchamp, Wouri Township; by three grandchildren: Ian Stoddard, FL; Kalen (Jenna) Stoddard, WI; and Rachel Stoddard, White Bear Lake; by two great-grandchildren: Rose and Eugene Stoddard, WI; and by countless friends.
