James Edward Daniels, age 72, longtime resident of Tower, MN, and Mission, TX, died Sunday, February 23, 2014, in the Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. He was born November 14, 1941, in Glenwood, MN, the son of Gerald and Annabelle (Lattimer) Daniels. Jim graduated from Hibbing High School and went on to attend a trade school welding program. Jim was a veteran of the US Navy. Jim was united in marriage to Alicia Frausto in Edinburg, TX.
Jim worked for US Steel, Minntac, as a welder – retiring in 1996. He was past president of the USW Union Local #1938, and was a lifetime member of VFW Post 8510 in Hibbing. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Jim also ran for the MN Senate 5th District seat in the early 1980's.
Jim is survived by his wife: Alicia; three daughters: Sandy (Roger) Daniels-Milton of Kinney, MN, Paula (Dan) Ostrander of Buhl, MN, and Michelle Stenger of Buhl, MN; his sister: JoAnn (Gary) Norenberg of Hibbing; three brothers: Stan (Patti) Daniels of Hibbing, Tom (Sue) Daniels of Hibbing, and Terry Daniels of St. Paul, MN; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Thursday, February 27, 2014, and from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am Funeral Service Friday, February 28, 2014, all in the Anderson-Daniels Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Larry Quanbeck will officiate. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
