James Leroy "Jim" Gilbert, age 79 of Mountain Iron, died Tuesday, December 23, 2014 in the Cornerstone Villa in Buhl. He was born January 31, 1935 in Buhl, the son of Carl and Alma (Nelson) Gilbert, and was a 1953 graduate of Martin Hughes High School. Jim married Lavina Parker on June 11, 1955 and was a lifelong Range resident. He was employed as a millwright for US Steel Minntac, had been the recording secretary for the United Steelworkers Union Local 1938, and was a proud democrat. Jim was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and had attended Messiah Lutheran Church in Mt. Iron. He liked to fish, hunt, golf, curl and was an avid sports fan, especially MIB Sports.
Jim is survived by his wife: Lavina; children: Janeane (Duane) Kaster of Aurora, Brian (Rhonda) Gilbert of Mt. Iron, Jolene Gilbert of Buhl and Elaina Gilbert of Mt. Iron; grandchildren: Taylor (Samantha) Gilbert, Jamey Kaster, Ryan Kaster, Paige Gilbert and Parker Gilbert; great-grandchildren: Emma Kaster and Bristol Gilbert; brothers: Jack (Judy) Gilbert of Medford, OR and Art (Char) Gilbert of Mt. Iron; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: John Gilbert, and niece Sadie Suomala.
A Gathering time for family and friends will be held Saturday, December 27, 2014 from 12 Noon until the 1:00 p.m. Memorial Service at Messiah Lutheran Church in Mt Iron. Pastor Kristin Foster will officiate with Brenda Tibbetts as assisting minister. Inurnment will be held in the Lakeview Cemetery in Buhl at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to Voyageur's Lutheran Ministry or Cornerstone Villa in lieu of flowers.
