Giorgi
Oct 21, 1938 — Jun 11, 2026
Mt. Iron
James Robert Giorgi, age 87, longtime resident of Mt. Iron, died peacefully Thursday, June 10, 2026, in his home. He was born October 21, 1938, in Virginia, MN, the son of John, Sr. and Anna (Jedda) Giorgi. He was a graduate of Mt. Iron High School. James was united in marriage to Marjorie Ellen Haverkost on May 2, 1959, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, in Hibbing.
James worked as a Maintenance Mechanic for Eveleth Taconite – retiring after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Jim was loved by all who knew him. He was a devoted husband and father, preferring only events and activities that included his children while they were growing up. He was always calm and supportive, rarely so much as raising his voice. He spent may years remodeling the family home, coaching boys basketball and working on remodeling projects for many. Anytime someone needed a job done on their home, he was the first to offer help, He also served his community on the Mt. Iron Buhl School Board as well as City Council for many years. In 2016, he was devastated by the loss of his wife, but yet continued to build a life for himself. He was active in his SOAR group, getting together for lunch with classmates, breakfasts with former coworkers and Sunday dinners with his daughter's family. He loved golf and played in a league as well as frequently with other friends., making new friends wherever he went. He really enjoyed meeting his six great grandchildren and seeing them grow. He death was unexpected, but he was able to live his full life right up to the end. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
James is survived by his children: Michael (Barb) Giorgi of Red Wing, MN, Robert (Christina) Giorgi of Orlando, FL, Sheri (Brian) Zarn of Mt. Iron, MN, and Thomas (Erica) Giorgi of Roseville, MN; grandchildren: Mark (Mary) Giorgi, James (Shannon) Giorgi, Melissa (Jeff) Kranz, Sean (Brooke) Zarn, Lia (Jake) Komula, Roxanna (Evan) Triantis, and Charlotte Giorgi; great-grandchildren: Odin, Kam, Anna, Rose, Grace, and Gino; and numerous extended family members and friends.
