James R.W. Meinzer, age 53 of Virginia lost his longtime battle with alcoholism on September 9, 2011 in the Grand Itasca Medical Center in Grand Rapids. He was born August 28, 1958 in Virginia, the son of Ron and Jeanette (Simons) Meinzer. James enjoyed golfing, camping with his family and the outdoors.
James is survived by his sons: David (Nanette) Meinzer of Surprise, AZ and Matthew Meinzer of Cary, North Carolina; Mother: Jeanette Meinzer of Mesa, AZ; two grandchildren; brothers: Steven (Pat) Meinzer and John (Char) Meinzer both of Virginia; sisters: Susan (Steve) Bergeson of Minnetonka and Lori (Jeff) Grumdahl of Hutter; numerous Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father: Ron Meinzer.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 12, 2011 in Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church in Virginia. Pastor Nathan Sager will officiate.
Memorials are preferred and may be directed to the Lakeplace Retreat Center for chemical dependency treatment, 25704 County Road 338, Bovey, MN 55709.
