Janice Ann Peterson, age 74 a longtime resident of Virginia died Wednesday, May 08, 2013 in Essentia St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth surrounded by her family. She was born August 24, 1938 in Hermantown, MN the daughter of Stephen and Amanda (Abrahamson) Jakubek and was a graduate of Hermantown High School. Janice lived in Hermantown and Omaha, NB prior to moving to Virginia. Janice first married William Otis and had five children. After the passing of her second husband, she married Robert A. Peterson on February 19, 1986 in Virginia. She was employed by Duluth Avionics, was employed as a CNA for the Virginia Arrowhead Nursing Home for 23 years, and worked part time with Evergreen Industries of Pengilly. Janice was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and had been a catechism instructor. She was an excellent homemaker, an interior decorator, and loved to knit, crotchet, and travel. Janice dedicated her life to her family. She was a devoted wife, mom, grandma, and great-grandma; who loved time spent with her family and especially looked forward to family gatherings.
Janice is survived by her husband: Robert A. "Bob" Peterson; children: Stephen Otis of Phoenix, AZ, Renee Galaski of Virginia, Terry (Heide) Otis of Mesquite, NV, Rose (Dwight) Davis of Virginia, Alan (Jane) Peterson of Roseville, and Candace (Bill) Erickson of Panama City, FL; grandchildren: Geoffrey Galaski, Bryan Galaski, Shea Galaski, Jessica Otis, Jordan Benz, Austin Benz, Kassie Krueger, and Kyle Krueger; great-grandchildren: Gunnar Galaski, Kloe Krueger, Kelsie Bryant, and Karlee Bryant; siblings: Donald (Pat) Jakubek of Brooksville, FL, Clarence (Ina Mae) Jakubek of Coeur d'Alene, ID, Marie Gimpel of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, and Leonard (Sharon) Jakubek of Britt; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family, and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Donald Blankenship; son: Michael Otis; and daughter: Dawn Marie Bilbrey.
Visitation will be held Saturday, May 11, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. until the 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Virginia. Reverend Father John O'Donnell will celebrate the Mass. Inurnment will take place in the Calvary Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and may be directed to the Road Runners Special Olympics Team.
