Obituary

Jay Elmer Hoiland, Sr., age 81 of Virginia died Thursday, June 9, 2016. He was born October 15, 1934 in Duluth, the son of Ted and Elsie (Plew) Hoiland and was a graduate of Cook High School and Itasca Junior College. He married Lois Jennings on December 7, 1953 in Virginia, and they lived in Virginia, Hoyt Lakes, and Lakeland prior to returning to Virginia in 1998. Jay managed the Hoyt Lakes Philips 66 station prior to a long career with Erie Mining Company. He was an active member of Grace Baptist Church in Virginia, where he served as a Deacon, and attended the Perkinston Baptist Church in Perkinston, MS where he spent the winter months with his wife. Jay was a Cub Scout leader for many years, had a passion for automobiles and the Bible, loved to travel the US in his RV, enjoyed camping, and volunteered as a driver for St. Louis County. He was a man who could fix anything, was the consummate "people person" who would help anyone at the drop of a hat, and was known for his carefully attended yard. Jay was a man of faith and a loving caregiver, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Iron; grandchildren: Hannah Salo, Lily (Lucas) Branstrom, Lydia Hoiland, Raina (Wes) Compton, Ruby Hoiland, Nora (John) Greer, Melissa Perpich, and Michael Perpich; numerous great-grandchildren, extended family and friends.
