JEAN GERTRUDE HANSON, age 82 of Balkan, died Monday, January 19, 2009 in the Holmes Regional Medical Center, Melbourne, FL. She was born August 8, 1926 in Graceville, MN the daughter of Henry and Beryl Wencel.
Jean was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Chisholm since 1951, serving as a Sunday school teacher, a member of the church board, and a member of the Ladies Bible Study group and circle. She loved spending time with family and friends, gardening, and walking on the beach in Florida.
Jean is survived by children, Loretta (Darwin) Tangen of Melbourne, FL, Raymond (Linda) Hanson of Mt. Iron, MN, and Ruth (James) Hemming of Duluth, MN; grandchildren, Tamara Tangen of Arlington, VA, Tony Tangen of Sunbury, Ohio, Roger (Pattie) Hanson of Oriental, NC, Lee Ann (Tony) Gillund of Des Moines, IA, and Bryan Hemming of Duluth, MN; great-grandchildren, Sydney Tangen, Karly Nelson, Jonah & Samantha Gillund, and Susan & Mayzie Hanson; siblings, Gladys Erkel of Prescott, AZ, Goldia Pula of Kelliher, MN, Betty Simmerman of Hibbing, MN, Delores Kegley of Tacoma, WA, Virgil Wencel of Orlando, FL, and Carol Hand of Bryson, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Henry; her parents; and a brother, George Wencel.
Visitation will be held Monday, January 26, 2009 from 12:00 noon until the 1:00 p.m. funeral service in the Grace Lutheran Church in Chisholm. Reverend Steve Breitbarth will officiate. Interment will follow in the Chisholm Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Jerry Pula, Leroy Pula, Kim Simmerman, Tony Gillund, Don Niemi, and Melvin Rolfe. Honorary Casketbearers will be Tony Tangen, Bryan Hemming, and Roger Hanson.
