Jeannette Anne Peterson, age 89, longtime resident of Parkville, MN, and formerly of Duluth, died Sunday, August 10, 2014, in the Virginia Care Center. She was born June 3, 1925, in Denham, MN, the daughter of Arvid and Amanda (Peterson) Nelson. She graduated from Willow River High School and went on to receive her RN degree from St. Luke's School of Nursing through the Cadet Nurse Corps during WWII. She was united in marriage to Robert Peterson at the Faith Lutheran Church in Denham, MN on August 21, 1948.
Jeannette worked as an RN at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, the VRMC in Virginia and the Eveleth Fitzgerald Nursing Home – retiring in 1997. She was a member of Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church in Virginia and the St. Luke's Alumni Association. As an avid crafter, Jeannette enjoyed knitting caps for infants at the hospital, sewing and gardening. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, and she loved the Minnesota Twins.
Jeannette is survived by her children: Claudia (David) Hendrickson of Embarrass, MN, Julia (Stephen) Gladhill of Fridley, MN, Laura (Bernie) Zollar of Soudan, MN, and Robert (Ruth) Peterson of Pharr, TX; her sister: Hazel Molis of Moose lake, MN; her brother: Roger (Helen) Nelson of Moose Lake, MN; 10 grandchildren: David, Patrick, Mackenzie, Marilyn, Annie, Christopher, Shiloh, Aliya, Cassidy, and Grant; and two great-grandchildren: Joshua and Florence.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Robert in 2013; her twin sister: Jeanne Martinson, her sister: Amy DeGroot, and her brothers: Oliver and Floyd Nelson.
Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the 11:00 A.M. Funeral Service Saturday, August 16, 2014, at the Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church in Virginia. The Reverend Nathan Sager will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date.
