Jerry J. Bodovinitz, age 76, of Virginia, MN, died Monday, June 24, 2013, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth following a lengthy illness. He was surrounded and comforted by his family during his illness. Jerry was born on February 17, 1937, in Virginia to John and Geraldine (Blomquist) Bodovinitz. He attended school in Virginia graduating in 1955. He married Karen Wallgren on December 17, 1955, and they made their home in Virginia. After working 20 years at Herbergers, in 1974 he went to work at USX Minntac, retiring in 1997.
Jerry enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing and boating at their cabin on Lake Vermilion, and traveling to Arizona and Hawaii with Karen. Jerry was extremely proud of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and they all will miss spending time with him.
Jerry is survived by his wife: Karen Bodovinitz of Virginia; daughters: Kerry (Bob) Bragge of Kinney, and Leslie (Randy) Sowers of Virginia; grandchildren: Melissa (David) Hillman of Virginia, Justin (Amie) Bodovinitz of Mt. Iron, Josh Bragge of Kinney, Claire Bodovinitz, Ian Bodovinitz, and Eli Bodovinitz all of Minneapolis; great grandchildren: Madeline, Ethan, and Amelia Hillman of Virginia, Ella Bodovinitz and Dakotah Guski of Mt. Iron; his brother: Michael (Peggy) Bodovinitz; his sister: Marion (Punk) Popelka; his sister-in-law: Norma Bodovinac; his daughter-in-law: Kari Bodovinitz; and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father: John; mother: Geraldine; and stepfather: Les Carlson; brother-in-law: William Popelka; brother: John Bodovinac; and son: Jeff Bodovinitz who died on the same date, June 24, six years ago.
A private service will be held. Inurnment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Virginia.
