Joan Gail Bloomquist, nee Carlson; age 80 of Virginia passed from this life into the arms of the Lord in whom she trusted on Monday, February 15, 2010; at Edgewood Vista Memory Care. She was born May 27, 1929 in Virginia, the daughter of Alfin and Minnie (Johnson) Carlson. She grew up in Hibbing, graduated from Hibbing High School and from Hibbing Junior College with an Associate of Arts Registered Nursing Degree. Joan worked for 17 years, delivering hundreds of babies, in the Pediatric Unit of the Virginia Municipal Hospital; worked as an Aide at St Mary's Hospital in Duluth; and the Hibbing General Hospital. As a Registered Nurse, providing loving care to others and her family was Joan's desire. Joan was a member of Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church in Virginia, and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Joan is survived by her sons: Lee (Kathryn) Bloomquist of Iron, Bennet (Joyce) Bloomquist of Virginia, and Paul (Roberta) Bloomquist of Eagan, MN; grandchildren: Jaimie Niska, Bethany Gillis, Anders Bloomquist, Britta Bloomquist, Thomas Bloomquist, and Phillip Bloomquist; great-grandchildren: Hailey, Natalie, Ethan, and Luke Gillis; sisters: Betty Falbo of Hibbing, and Nancy (Jim) Ott of Quincy, IL; numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings: Doris Negri, Marlene Simberg, and Milton, Myron, Russell, Robert, Calvin, and Ronald Carlson.
A gathering time for Family and friends will be held Monday, February 22, 2010 from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Memorial Service in Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastor Nathan Sager and Pastor Lisa Buchanan will co-officiate the service. Spring Inurnment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.
