JoAnne "Ama Gee" McClure, age 69 of Hibbing died Saturday, April 9, 2011 in Fairview University Medical Center – Mesabi. She was born September 9, 1941 in Littlefork, MN the daughter of Victor and Vienna (Maki) Erickson and was a graduate of International Falls High School. JoAnne lived in Ray, International Falls, Hibbing, and Duluth prior to returning to Hibbing. She owned and operated Jo's Curl Inn and taught at Cosmetology Careers Unlimited in Hibbing. She then went back to school to become a medical transcriptionist; and was employed by United Health Care, Polinsky Institute, SMDC, St. Lukes, Fairview University Medical Center – Mesabi, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield. JoAnne was a former 4-H leader and a member of First Presbyterian Church where she has served as an Elder and sang in the choir. Music was a very important part of JoAnne's life; she was a talented pianist, organist, and vocalist and sang with the Sweet Adelines. She enjoyed playing cards and games, loved bingo, knitting, sewing, and was a Wii Bowling champion. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and her laugh.
JoAnne is survived by children: LouAnne (Jerry) Gibson of Hibbing, Lee (Kari) Zieske of Hibbing, Deborah (Rob Illikainen) Zieske of Hibbing, Darrell (Carolyne) Zieske of Blaine, and Mark McClure of Minneapolis; grandchildren (the lights of her life): Taylor Pratt, Jordan Zieske, Maggie Zieske, and Justice Zieske; numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Victor and Vienna; son: Louis Zieske; and siblings: "Muggs" Taylor and Ron Erickson.
A Gathering Time for Family and Friends will be held Friday, April 15, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. until the 3:00 p.m. Memorial Service in First Presbyterian Church in Hibbing. Pastor Jim Deters will officiate. Spring Inurnment will be in the family plot of the Lyman Cemetery in Ray, MN.
