John Leland Lund, 89, of Hibbing passed away Saturday, June 27th at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth.  John was born February 14, 1937, to Walter and Linda (Minkkinen) Lund in Kettle River, MN.  He was the eldest of nine children growing up and working the family farm in Floodwood.  After graduating from Floodwood High School, John moved to Virginia, MN where he began attending college and working for the MN state highway department.  It was there he met and married his wife Roberta Anne Anshus, to whom he would be married for 60 years.   They moved to Minneapolis where John graduated from the University of Minnesota as a civil engineer.  The family lived in the twin cities until moving to Hibbing in 1979.   Prior to his retirement in 2002, John was a project engineer with Barr Engineering and a member of the Minnesota Society of Professional Engineers.

John was very well known for his abilities to fix and build pretty much anything whether it was rebuilding a car engine, welding, carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electricity and many other endeavors.  More importantly, John was always generous with his time and sharing these talents for the benefit of others.

John was an avid outdoorsman and shared that love with his three sons.  We will always treasure the memories of time spent with him hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and riding motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles.

True to his Finnish heritage, John was a man of few words but his words carried a lot of weight and he led by example.  Those who knew John knew he was a man of character and integrity.  When he said something, he meant it and he exemplified excellence in all he did.

He is survived by Sons: Brad (Chastity) of Floodwood, Scott (Stephanie) of Lino Lakes, and Eric (Raquel) of Hibbing; Grandchildren: Cory, Danielle, Shannon, Milee, Madison, Samantha, Connor, John, and Colton; Great-granddaughter: Brooklynn.  In addition, he is survived by Brothers: Bill Lund and Larry Lund; Sisters: Bette Neitzke, Lois Hamilton, and Kelly Lund; Sister-in-law: Eleanor Anshus of Virginia; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Roberta, in 2018; as well as brothers: Gerald Lund and Robert Lund; and sister: Sharon Filiatrault.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Hibbing at 11:30 a.m.  Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m.  Pastor Kevin Olson will officiate.  Inurnment will be in the Our Savior's Lutheran Church Columbarium.
