June Augusta Laugen, age 88 of Virginia and formerly of Tower died Monday, May 2, 2011 in St. Michael's Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born December 5, 1922 in Cass Lake, MN the daughter of Nels and Ruth (Warden) Nelson. June was a 1941 graduate of Tower Soudan High School and married Bernard Laugen on May 9, 1941. She was employed by Olson's IGA, the Tower State Bank and was a homemaker. She was a lifelong member of St. James Presbyterian Church where she served in many capacities including former treasurer and was a member of the Presbyterian Women. While living at the Lake, June liked walking outdoors, enjoying the change of seasons. She was a wonderful homemaker, baker, and cook.
June is survived by children: Russell "Joe" (Diane) Laugen of Aurora and Patricia Laugen of Virginia; grandchildren: Kelly Laugen of Biwabik and Chad (Lisa) Laugen of Gilbert; great-grandchildren: Brody Horn, Kade Laugen, and Ty Laugen; great-great-grandson: Izzik Horn; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends including special friend: Gena Bukovich of Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Bernard; and brothers: Russell and Richard Nelson.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2011 in St. James Presbyterian Church in Tower. Pastor Bill Evans will officiate.
Memorials are preferred.
June's family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff of St. Michaels where she resided for the past year. She was treated like a member of their family. The kindness and love shown to her will never be forgotten.
