Katharina Pennala, age 90 of Mountain Iron and formerly of Babbitt died Friday, November 10, 2017 with her family by her side at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Mt. Iron. She was born February 9, 1927 in Gebrontshausen Germany, the daughter of Georg and Maria Pflügl. Katharina married Arthur William Pennala on February 13, 1956 and was a longtime Babbitt resident. She worked for Zup's Grocery Store, Bear Island Resort, did catering with the Babbitt Café and was a homemaker. Katarina was a member of Woodland Presbyterian Church in Babbitt, and the Babbitt VFW Post Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, baking, playing cribbage, traveling on bus trips, and spending time with her family, especially her grandkids.
Katharina is survived by children: E. Robert Pennala of St. Paul MN, Susan (Bob) Arvola of Mt. Iron MN, Lori Johnson of Cypress TX, and Michael Pennala of Virginia MN; siblings: Max (Agnes) Pflügl, Agnes (Ludwig) Müller, and Erika Seger; sisters-in-law: Ilsa Pflügl and Rosi Pflügl; grandchildren: Marie (Richy Rivera) Arvola, Bryan (Jen) Arvola, Alex Johnson, Ashley (Ben) Wilking, and Troy Johnson; great-grandchildren: Alannah Rivera-Cancel; Alex and Sam Schultz and Evan and Aila Arvola; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Art; siblings: Georg Pflügl, Alois Pflügl, Michael Pflügl, and Joey Pflügl; and sister-in-law: Rosalie Pflügl.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2017 in Woodland Presbyterian Church in Babbitt. Pastor Frank Davis will officiate. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the Church. Interment will be in the Argo Cemetery. Memorials are preferred and may be directed to Woodland Presbyterian Church.
