Kenneth Gordon Hartz, Sr., age 78, of Virginia went home to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at Evergreen Terrace in Grand Rapids. He was born October 8, 1937, in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Gordon and Vivian (Strong) Hartz. He attended schools in Minneapolis. A veteran of the US Navy, Ken served as a Dentist's Assistant aboard the USS Prairie from 1955-1958. Ken worked in the field of Dental Marketing at several locations around the United States, and retired as the CEO of Kulzer, USA. He also owned Hartz Video Arts in Virginia. Ken's passions were music, reading, walking and videography. Ken is survived by his wife of 23 years: Ruth Hartz; his former wife of 32 years and mother of his three children: Barbara Hartz of Mesa, AZ; children: Deborah (Vince) Buildt of Lake Forest, CA, Ken Hartz, Jr. of Mesa, AZ, and Daneen (Jeff) Ferguson of Chandler, AZ; His brother: James Hartz of North Branch, MN; his sisters: Patricia Hartz-Johnson of Mahtomedi, MN, and Karen Morales of Newport, NC and many special nieces and nephews; grandchildren: Jennifer (David) Limm, Joshua (Renee) Ferguson, Sarese Ferguson, Rachel Ferguson, and Ben Ferguson; great-grandchildren: Josiah Ferguson, Bennett Ferguson, and 1 more on the way; life-time close friend: Jim Sidwell of Plymouth, MN; step-children: Sherri (Marcus Hoche) Teasck of Hibbing, and Jeffery (Sarah Hoel) Teasck of Virginia; step-grandchildren: Hannah, Zoe, Sophia and Bethany Hoche, and Ellie and Ivy Teasck. Ken was preceded in death by his parents: Gordon (Edith) Hartz, and Vivian (Walter) Welander; brothers: Dennis and Curtiss Hartz ; his sister: Sharrie Hartz; and good friend and brother-in-law; Bob (Ellen) Miller. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm until the 3:00 pm Celebration of Life Service Saturday, December 19, 2015, at True Hope Fellowship in Midway. Pastor Joel Kallberg will officiate. Interment will be at a later date at the Rush Point Cemetery near Rush City, MN. Family services are provided by Bauman-Cron, a Bauman Family Funeral Home in Virginia.
