Lampi
Nov 23, 1951 — May 5, 2018
Kenneth R. Lampi, age 66, longtime resident of Mt. Iron and formerly of Colorado died Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Chris Jensen Health and Rehabilitation Center in Duluth under Hospice Care. He spent a large part of his life in pain with Rheumatoid Arthritis and most recently advanced heart disease.
Ken was born November 23, 1951 to Arvid and Laila (Bispala) Lampi in Hibbing, MN. He was a member of Faith United Lutheran Church. Ken was confirmed from Bethel Lutheran Church in Cherry on May 14, 1967. He was a 1970 graduate of Cherry High School.
Ken was employed at the U.S. Steel Minntac plant and later at an oil search company in Colorado. He enjoyed science fiction movies and books. Ken had a gift for never leaving silence in the room and loved to tell anyone who showed interest about his life on the farm with horses and cattle and the many adventures in his careers – especially the oil fields. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Most recently he met his youngest great-niece Aubrey Joy Lampi and that brought a smile to his face. He spoke of his love for his deceased dog, Colonel, who was part wolf. Colonel was very gentle and fond of children.
Ken is survived by brothers: Donald, Richard, and Raymond (Rolene) Lampi; nieces and nephews: Michael Lampi (Debbie Carter), Darlene Lampi, Mark (Jan) Lampi, Denice Danielson, Karen Lampi, Dale (Debra) Lampi, Kristine (Perry) Speros, and Matthew (Nicole) Lampi; former sister-in-law: Mardel Lampi; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends. Special friends and neighbors Sylvester and LuAnne Goerdt kept a watchful eye on Ken and the family is forever grateful for their dedication and help to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Arvid and Laila Lampi; infant sister: Arlene; and sister-in-law: Susan Lampi.
