Obituary

Leo Vincent Wickstrom, age 95 of Biwabik, MN and formerly of Hoyt Lakes, MN and Fort Myers, FL went to the Lord on July 1, 2017. He was born September 30, 1921 in Winthrop, MN. Leo married Verna Prust on May 29, 1947, and was a lifelong member of Faith Lutheran Church in Hoyt Lakes, MN. He was a proud WWII Marine veteran who attended numerous reunions and also attended an honor flight in 2014. Leo was employed as a supervisor in the pellet plant at Erie Mining Company, retiring in 1982. After retiring, he enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, fishing, dancing, boating, his lawn work and flowers, and 35 years of wintering in Fort Myers, FL.


Leo is survived by his wife of 70 years: Verna; sons: Collin (Ramona) of Chisholm, Chris of Side Lake, and Tom (Pam) of Mountain Iron; grandchildren: Jennifer (Josh) Nevala of Soudan and Jill (Brandon) Gruba of Rice, MN; great-grandson: Bentlee Nevala, and soon to be twin daughters of Jill and Brandon.


He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter: Sueann Wickstrom.


The Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Faith Lutheran Church in Hoyt Lakes. Pastor Barbara Hegfors will officiate. A gathering time for family and friends will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the church. Military Honors will be accorded by the Aurora – Hoyt Lakes Color Guard.
