Lillian J. Filius, age 85 of Tower, died Wednesday, October 28, 2026 at Vermilion Senior Living in Tower. She was born on June 8, 1941 in McGregor, Minnesota, the daughter of Wilber and Lillian Sample. She was a 1959 graduate of the McGregor High School, and also a graduate of Oak Hills Bible College. Lillian worked as a caregiver for mentally handicapped adults at the Salmi Homes, and Empowerment Services (ESI). Her faith was important to her and she had been an active member in church. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She gained immense enjoyment by spending time with them.

Lillian is survived by 4 children: John Filius (Colleen Anderson) of Hoyt Lakes, Marian (James) Smits of Huntsville, AL, Allen Filius of Hoyt Lakes, and Bethany (Eric) Hietala of Embarrass; brother: Paul (Karen) Sample of Barnum; grandchildren: Matthew, Robert, Beth, Jacklyn, Lucas, Brent, David, Stephanie, Tanya, Allen, and Brendan; 27 great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son: Lennard Daniel Filius in 2004; and siblings: Gene, Sam, George, and Ruth.

The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5 at the Legacy Church East Range, in Aurora. A visitation will begin one hour prior at 1:00 p.m. also at the church. Pastor Chris Mammenga will officiate. Interment will follow at Forrest Hill Cemetery in Aurora.
