Obituary

Lillian M. Hakola, age 97, of Hibbing died Friday, February 27, 2009 in her home. She was born April 26, 1911 in Buhl, MN, the daughter of Matt and Hilma (Saaralampi) Maki. She grew up in Cedar Valley and attended Cedar Valley schools. On November 12, 1933 she married Rudolph "Rudy" Hakola in Hibbing.
Lillian managed Country Estates Mobile Home Park in Hibbing for many years, retiring in her 80's. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and was known for her generosity and hospitality; sharing coffee and baked goods with all who visited her. She will be remembered for her concern for family. She was an avid sports fan who loved watching the Minnesota Wild.
Lillian is survived by her children: Gordon (Ione) Hakola of Paradise Valley, AZ, Gerald Hakola of Santa Rosa, CA, Elaine (Ernesto) Vargas of Coon Rapids, MN, and Deanna (Cal) Hakala of Floodwood, MN; sister: Jenny Clemons of Hibbing; sisters-in-law: Sadie Maki of Hibbing, and Ardice Maki of Hibbing; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and a special friend Mary Mickelson of Chisholm.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rudy in 1976; sons: Dean Hakola, and Norman "Dale" Hakola; 4 brothers; and 3 sisters.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 10, 2009 from 12 Noon until the 1:00 p.m. Funeral Service in the Anderson-Daniels Funeral Home Chapel in Hibbing. Interment will follow in the Hibbing Park - Maple Hill Cemetery.
