Lillian E. Latola, age 88, longtime resident of Palo died Friday, January 30, 2015, at St. Michael's Health and Rehab in Virginia. She was born July 28, 1926, in White Twp. the daughter of Matt and Elina (Kahtava) Lehtinen. She attended Aurora High School. Lillian was united in marriage to Martin Latola in 1943.
Lillian worked as a musician giving music lessons, playing in the Toppers Orchestra with Martin, and running music stores in Eveleth, Aurora and Palo. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and served as Grand Organist in 1973, and was a member of St. Mark's in Palo, the VFW Auxiliary in Hoyt Lakes, the Kaleva Hall, the Palo Sr. Citizen's Center, and Women's Life. She also enjoyed gardening and cooking.
Lillian is survived by her children: Joyce (Joseph) Baudek of Aurora, and Ralph (Becky) Latola of Palo; grandchildren: Heidi (Dean) Weiberg, Matthew (Nikole) Baudek, Heather (Jon) Feind, Kelly (Mari) Latola, and Michelle (Marcus) McRae; great-grandchildren: Anna Weiberg, Emily Baudek, Briar Baudek, Khya Feind, Quinn Feind, Jordan Latola, Ryan Latola, and Kal McRae; brother: Edwin (Vivian) Lehtinen of Queensland, Australia; sister-in-law: Elsie Lehtinen of Aurora; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents: her husband: Martin in 2012, brothers: Edward and Sulo; and sisters: Wilma, Aune, Lila, and Laili.
A private family service will be held.
