Obituary

Lois Luella Martell, 91 of Virginia passed away on July 7, 2026, at Essentia Health in Virginia MN.

Lois was born on May 24, 1935, the daughter of  William & Lillian Martell in Ely, MN.  She grew up in Ely before moving to Virginia in the 1980's.  Lois enjoyed drawing, writing letters, watching cat videos, paint by number along with other hobbies and games.  She always loved to share a cup of coffee with friends and family.  She especially enjoyed time spent at the family homestead near Ely where she grew up.  Lois was known for her Finnish SISU & uniqueness.  She worked for the East Range DAC.  She enjoyed it so much that she worked there well into her 80's.  She stated that she would retire "when she got older".  She had a heart of gold, filled with love and faith.  She was loved by many and will be missed.

Lois is survived by beloved family members; nephews David (Jo Ann) Kirkman of Orono MN, Dan Kirkman of Ely, Martyn Kirkman of Mpls MN niece Kristi (Dan) Kure of Cook MN , grand nieces & nephews Caitlin, Joseph, Jacob, John, Jared & Hannah, great-grand nieces Juniper, Evelyn & Lilia along with extended family & friends.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents William & Lillian Martell, sister Myrna Mae Martell Kirkman, brother-in-law Erling Kirkman and grandnephew David William Kure.

The family would like to thank the many caregivers through NHS over the years for their compassionate and skilled care.  They truly gave Lois a full and happy life.

Her Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026 at the Bauman-Cron Funeral Home in Virginia. Inurnment will take place in the Ely Cemetery.
