Lyna Helen Lamppa, 90, of Virginia and formerly of Embarrass, died on Sunday, August 24, 2014. Lyna was born on December 10, 1923 to Emil and Hulda (Perttu) Niemi of Florenton. She graduated from the Virginia High School in 1942. She was united in marriage to Ernest Lamppa on July 18, 1943 in Virginia. Their first home was in Indianapolis, Indiana where Ernie was stationed. When he was shipped overseas, she moved to Longview, Washington to be near family. Here she worked in the ship yards. Once Ernie was discharged, they moved to Embarrass where they joined in the family business. Lyna worked at Lamppa's Inc. until it closed. She was a member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Lyna enjoyed ceramics classes, gardening, traveling, and spending time at the cabin hosting large family get-togethers with family and friends. Her hands were never idle and the beautiful crocheted tablecloths and knitted afghans she made for her children and grandchildren are cherished.
Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Ernie; two children: Jim (Janice) Lamppa of Eveleth, Lon (Ann) Lamppa of Tower; six grandchildren: Derek (Tara) Lamppa, Brent (Julie) Lamppa, Justin (Amanda) Lamppa, Jessica (John) Score, Joshua (Stacie) Lamppa and Davis (Laura) Lamppa; sixteen great-grandchildren: Olivia, Luke, Kasey, Isaac, Xander, Ero, Ari, Ella, Emma, Majia, Lexi, Jaxson, Joey Lamppa and Ava, Alec, and Carson Score; sister Evie Lamppa of Virginia; sister-in- laws: Alice Niemi and Bertha Niemi of Virginia; brother-in-law Alvin (Janet) Lamppa of Embarrass; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Hulda Niemi; sisters: Toby Fields and Laura Heikkila; brothers: Ero, Bill, John, Arnie and Leonard Niemi.
A private funeral service will be held with Pastor Don Stauty as celebrant. Family and friends of the family are invited to a "Celebration of Life" on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at the Elks Club in Virginia at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Embarrass Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers are Derek Lamppa, Brent Lamppa, Justin Lamppa, Jessica Lamppa-Score, Joshua Lamppa and Davis Lamppa.
