Marion LaVeryn Rivard, age 98, longtime resident of Virginia, died Monday, April 3, 2017, at Essentia Health Duluth. She was born August 27, 1918, in Ely, MN, the daughter of Francis and Ruth (Nicholls) Harper. She graduated from Virginia High School. Marion was united in marriage to Norman A. Rivard on January 9, 1943, in Duluth.
Marion worked as a homemaker and at Pepelnjak's Bakery. She was a member of Peace United Methodist Church in Virginia, and she enjoyed knitting, baking, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Marion is survived by six children: Sally (Jim) Schuenke of Janesville, WI, Hank (Carolyn) Rivard of Othello, WA, Lois (Don) Lackner of Eveleth, MN, Norma (John Zupancich) Purkat of Britt, MN, Yvonne Rivard (Frank Karasti) of Gilbert, MN, and Nancy Smith of Proctor, MN; 20 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; her designated daughter: Patsy LaPin; special friends Jeanne Cornell and Kate Barnes; and numerous extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Norman (1994); her sister: Maybel Serson; her brothers: Jim, Tom, and Bill Harper; and great-grandchildren: Hope Fuller, Colton Schuenke, and Noah Schuenke.
Visitation will be from 10 am until the 11 am Memorial Service Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at Peace United Methodist Church in Virginia. Pastor Mickey Olson will officiate.
