Mark E. Rostvold, age 85 of Hinsdale, IL and formerly of Nashwauk died Thursday, April 22, 2010. Mark was born August 5, 1924 in Nashwauk, the son of Arndt and Olive (Ness) Rostvold. He was a US Navy veteran, a teacher, and a professional singer. He was the beloved brother of Arlene, Lowell, Gerhard, Alton, Keith, Leo, Virgil, and Neil.
Mark is survived by a sister: Marjorie, and a brother: Luther.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2010 in the Nashwauk Lutheran Church. Pastor Jean Megorden will officiate. Interment will follow in the family plot in the Nashwauk Cemetery.
In Lieu of Flowers, Memorials may be directed to the Nashwauk Lutheran Church or the Alzheimers Foundation.

MARK ROSTVOLD BIO

Mark Rostvold was born on August 5, 1924, in the family home on 3rd Street in Nashwauk. He was the 7th child born to Olive and Arndt Rostvold.
He graduated from Nashwauk High School in 1943, as valedictorian. After enlisting in the Navy at 19 years old, he served in the Pacific on the Island of Guam. As a Medical Corpsman, he treated the wounded.

After the war, Mark returned to Nashwauk and attended Hibbing Jr. College. Mark went on to attend St. Olaf College, graduating with science and teaching degrees. While at St. Olaf, he was a member of the Men's Glee Club and thoroughly enjoyed his time there.

Mark's first teaching position was at Augustana Academy in Canton, South Dakota, from 1953-1958. He then moved to the Chicago area and accepted a high school position, teaching Biology and Chemistry at Mundelin High School.
While in Chicago, Mark sang in a number of choral groups: Basically Bach and the Niles Men's Chorus. He sang at an Episcopalian church in downtown Chicago and was a member of the Chicago Symphony Chorus.

Mark eventually took teaching positions at high schools in Niles, Illinois. During that time, he took a sabbatical and acquired his Master's degree.

After retiring, Mark purchased a vacation home in Arkansas and a townhouse in downtown Minneapolis. While in Minneapolis, Mark sang in the choir at Hope Lutheran Church and with a Nordic men's group. Mark found more time to spend at his beloved cabin at Crooked Lake and took trips to Europe, Antarctica, and Costa Rica, and Norway to visit family.
