Mark E. Wakefield, age 78 of Wuori Township, died Sunday, January 14, 2018 in Essentia Health- Virginia. He was born September 24, 1939 in Tamarack Village MN the son of Harold and Clara (Schemehl) Wakefield. Mark grew up in Duluth and on Island Lake, prior to moving to Wuori Township in the early 1960's. He served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1961. Mark was employed as a St. Louis County Deputy Sheriff, and later a maintenance man for Wuori Township, and was a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of the Pratt-Volden-Mickelson-Anderson American Legion Post # 239 in Virginia, and enjoyed woodworking, restoring antiques, working crossword puzzles, and taking his dogs for a walk.

Mark is survived by his Mother: Clara Wakefield of Island Lake; wife: June Hagen of Pike-Sandy Township; sons: David Wakefield of Virginia and Scott Wakefield; step-son: Keith Hagen of Tower; siblings: Bob, Joe (Sue), Clifford (Nan), Don (Linda), Edie Gelineau, and Judy (Tom) Ferrell; numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father: Harold and sister: Mary.

At Mark's request, no formal services will be held. A private inurnment will take place in the spring of 2018.
