Biography Maimee {Mayme} Eleonora Toikka of Embarrass, died Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at the glorious age of 97 years. She had been residing at Park River Estates Care Center in Coon Rapids, Minnesota.She was born June 6, 1914 in Waasa Township, Minnesota the daughter of Oscar and Amelia (Pylkka) Aho. She grew up in Embarrass and attended school there until the eighth grade when she left to help out at home with her brothers and sisters. In 1937, she married Wayne Toikka and they became lifelong residents of Embarrass, raising two sons there. She worked at the Co-op store for many years and after her sons were grown continued to be active in the community by volunteering in the Gray Ladies Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels, and the Senior Citizens Organization where she would lead them in craft and baking projects.
Mayme is survived by sons: Stanley (Beverly) Toikka of Andover, MN and Roger (Kathleen) Toikka of Andover, MN ; grandchildren: Robert (Kelli) Toikka, Amy (Abraham) Toikka-Riffel, Teresa (Christopher) Toikka-Jensen, and Johann (Jennifer) Toikka; great grandchildren: Ashley Toikka, Tyler Toikka, Grace Toikka, and Jack Toikka; siblings: Edwin Aho of Embarrass, Willard Aho of Virginia, Darrell Hanson of Omaha, NB; and Elizabeth "Betty" White of Chaska, MN; uncle: Leonard Pylka; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sisters: Hazel Aho, Lyla Maki, Helen Anderson; brothers: Herbert, Benjamin, Wesley, Wilbert, Benhardt, Wallace, and granddaughter, Lori Beth Lewis.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2012 in Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church in Virginia. Pastor Donald Salo will officiate. Interment will follow in the Embarrass Cemetery.
