Melvin H. "Mick" Mikkola, age 85, a lifelong resident of Hibbing, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at the Cook Hospital in Cook, MN. He was born April 13, 1923 in Hibbing, the son of Swan and Maria (Koski) Mikkola. He attended Hibbing Schools. He was married to Mavis Eleanor Hugger for over 25 years.
Mick was employed at U.S. Steel as a Service Truck Driver for 38 years. He was the former co-owner of the Hibbing Roller Rink. He was a stock car racing fan, and also enjoyed watching movies. He will be remembered as part of "The Coffee Gang" at McDonalds in Hibbing.
Mick is survived by his children, Marla Rowe of Virginia, MN and Jeff Mikkola of Mt. Iron, MN; grandchildren, Diane Mitchell, Lynn Maki, Susan Maki, Whitney Durbin, and Cheyenne Mikkola; great-grandchildren, Amy Kate, Taylor, Sammy Jean, Sammi May, Audrey, Joey, and Ally.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mavis in 1977; and his great-granddaughter, Jennifer.
Visitation will be Monday, April 13, 2009 from 10:00 am until the 12:00 noon Celebration of Life service in the Anderson-Daniels Funeral Home Chapel. Greg Anderson will be the celebrant. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
Casketbearers will be several of Mick's friends.
