Obituary

Mildred Davis, 95, of Tower, died on June 20, 2012, at the Virginia Regional Medical Center. She was born in Bordulac, North Dakota. At age 18, she moved to St. Paul, where she married Frank Karich, became a mother, and worked as a cook. She later lived in Cleveland where she worked in a munitions plant. In 1946 the family moved to Aurora where she raised her children and continued working as a cook. In 1966 she moved to Lake Vermilion with her second husband, Ben Davis.
Mildred was active in the St. James Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed cooking, knitting, quilting, sewing, reading and genealogy. She had a lifelong love of learning and took college classes later in life. She had many adventures: three trip to Europe, dog sled, submarine, hot air balloon and helicopter rides. She was very involved with her family and traveled extensively for frequent visits. She remained active in her church and community until she moved to Washington Manor in Virginia in 2008. She returned to Tower in 2011 as a resident of Golden Horizons Assisted Living.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Orin Fern and Hazel (Mourer) Caulkins; her sister: Cleo Sneddekker; brother: Lowell Caulkins; son: Gary Karich; and husband: Ben Davis.
Mildred is survived by her children: Nola Caulkins of Virginia, and Glenn Karich (Stacy Lee) of Pike River; sister: Bethel of WI; daughter-in-law: Pat Karich of Tower; son-in-law: Al Golden of Tower; grandchildren: Karla Summers of KY, Rainy Couchenour of AZ and Sonny Golden of IL; niece: Margie Kluge of ND; nephew: Duane Sneddekker of MO; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 29, 2012, at 1:00 pm in the St. James Presbyterian Church in Tower. Pastor Nathan Williams will officiate.
