SERVICES: Memorial service will be at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, January 24, 2009 at United Methodist Church in Virginia. The Rev. Brenda King will officiate. A gathering time for family and friends will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church, and continue until the service at noon. Memorials are preferred and may be directed to the Virginia Foundation, the VRMC (Virginia Regional Medical Center) Foundation, or the United Methodist Church. Molly Marie Cope, 84, of Virginia, died Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at the Virginia Regional Medical Center.
She was born July 23, 1924, in Virginia, Minnesota, to John F. Hoey and Louise Erickson Hoey. Molly was graduated from high school in Mountain Iron, Minnesota, in 1942. She attended the Mac Phail School of Music at the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1946. She married Hershel B. Cope on December 25, 1944.
Molly dedicated her life to her husband and children's happiness. She loved people, music, and a good cup of coffee. Caring and kindness were offered with ease. She was loved very much.
She was a member of the Virginia United Methodist Church, their Women's Circle, and the church choir. She was also a member of P.E.O. Chapter CI of Virginia.
Survivors include six children, Patricia Cope Staley (Paul) of Cumbria, England, Steven M. Cope (Nancy) of Kohler, Wisconsin, James R. Cope (Jodie A. Steblay) of Britt, Minnesota, Nancy L. Peterson (Jeff) of Lake Vermilion, Tower, Minnesota, John F. Cope (Linda) of Virginia, Minnesota, Rhonda M. Wood (Raymond) of International Falls, Minnesota; grandchildren, Norman H. Wood (Nicci), Molly I. Davis (Tyler), Laurie Cope Edgerton (Burke), Dana M. Cope-Roubik (Tom), Alicia L. Cope (Brent), Jodie L. Cope (Dave), Amanda C. Thompson (Brian), Meghan E. Peterson, Tyler J. Peterson (Margit), Keith H. Peterson (Emma), Andrew R. Peterson (Katherine), Alexander J. Cope, Audrey J. Cope, Elizabeth H. Cope, Andrew H. Cope, Peter W. Cope, Benjamin H. Staley, Samuel C. Staley; great-grandchildren, William C. Peterson, Noah H. Peterson, Liesl Belle Cope-Schaeffer, Jude C. Edgerton, Jax C. Edgerton, Amelia L. Cope-Robinson, Sydney R. Cope-Robinson, Rory J. Molly was preceded in death by her husband, Hershel B. Cope, one son, Thomas Hershel Cope, granddaughter, Angela L. Cope, one daughter-in-law, Helen B. Cope. Her parents, John F. Hoey and Louise Erickson Hoey, sister, Blanche (Steve) Pogorelce, and brother Jack (Margaret) Hoey.
