Muriel Rose Hart Bauman, 88 of North Port, FL and Hibbing, and formerly of Aurora and Ironwood, MI, died Friday, August 21 in the compassionate care of the Tidewell Hospice House in Port Charlotte, Fl. She was born Jan. 4, 1927 the daughter of Albert S. and Elsie (Galster) Hart. She graduated from High School in Hillsboro, WI, and from the College of Cosmetology in Madison, WI. Muriel married William S. Bauman on Sept. 15, 1948 in Janesville, WI. They made their home in Ironwood, MI, and Crosby MN, moved to Aurora in 1955, and to Hibbing in 1974. In their retirement, they spent winters in North Port, FL.
Muriel owned beauty salons in Janesville, WI, Ironwood, MI and Aurora, MN. She was extremely active in the American Cancer Society, holding many local and state board positions, and was the recipient of the Betty Cunningham award for outstanding service in the state of Minnesota; she volunteered as an American Red Cross Grey Lady, and volunteered her cosmetology skills at area nursing homes and for Tidewell Hospice. Muriel was recognized as one of President Bush's Thousand Points of Light. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hibbing, attended St. Paul's Presbyterian Church in North Port, FL, the Hibbing Elks Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, the Arrowhead Hairdressers Assoc, the Christian Women's Club, and served on the Jackson Perkins Rose Test Panel. Muriel loved family, loved to entertain guests in her home where she was a gracious hostess, loved playing bridge, enjoyed the beach, crossword Puzzles, hot coffee, good Scotch, and great conversation. She was a woman with a determined spirit, a passion for helping others, and a love for her Savior.
Muriel is survived by her son: Bill (Jeannine) Bauman of Virginia; granddaughter: Erika Bauman of Duluth; brother: Al (Stella) Hart of Columbus, NC: sister: Arlene (Don) Jablonski of Woodbury; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Albert S. and Elsie; step-mother: Irene; husband Bill in 1998; and 3 grandchildren in infancy.
The visitation for Muriel will be Sunday, August 30, 2015 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Anderson-Daniels Funeral Home in Hibbing. Visitation will continue Monday, August 31, 2015 from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service at First Presbyterian Church in Hibbing. Pastor Jim Deters will officiate. Graveside Services will take place Monday at 2:30 p.m. in Calvary Cemetery in Virginia.
