Muriel L. Gilbert, age 93 of Virginia, died Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Edgewood Vista Senior Living Center in Virginia with her family by her side. She was born May 16, 1924 to John and Claudia (Northey) Novak and was a 1942 graduate of Virginia High School. She married Robert Gilbert and was a lifelong resident of Virginia. She worked for J.C. Penney's, gathered with the J.C. Penney retirees often, and was a member of the Peace United Methodist Church. Muriel loved to travel, cook, cheer for the Minnesota Twins and the Wild, and she enjoyed music. She especially loved being a mom, grandma, great-grandma, and all the time spent with her family.

Muriel is survived by her children: Sharon (Daniel) Peterson of Lake Eshquaguma, Susan Marvel of Int'l Falls, Robert (Dianne) Gilbert of Maple Grove, and Lori Gilbert of Virginia; grandchildren: Mark Peterson of Biwabik, Debra (Steve) Peterson Durette of Andover, Tracy Peterson of Virginia, Amy (Edward) Blackburn of Naples, FL, Chris (Diane) Marvel of Fergus Falls, Stephanie (Bill) Mannausau of Int'l Falls, Kimberly (Aaron) Schurman of South Lake Tahoe, CA, and Kelly Guralnik of Maple Grove; 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert in 1985; brothers: Richard and John Novak; sisters: Laverne Bruzenak, Joyce Kraker, Dyhla O'Leary, and Dolly Renzaglia.

A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 21, 2017 at the Bauman-Cron Funeral Home in Virginia. A Gathering time for family and friends will begin one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will take place in the Greenwood Cemetery in Virginia.
