Obituary

Nona A. (Peterson) Sakrison, age 92, of Virginia passed away at the Virginia Convalescent Center on Friday, February 18, 2011. She was born June 25, 1918 in Virginia, the daughter of Alvin and Della (Hatcher) Peterson and was a graduate of Virginia High School and Virginia Junior College. Prior to WWII, Nona was a credit manager for the Sears Roebuck Company in Virginia. She served in the Navy from October 1943 to December 1945 and was stationed at the Dahlgren Navy Proving Grounds as a specialist in ballistics. Nona married Lloyd E. Sakrison on January 14, 1948 in Virginia; from 1965 to 2000, they owned and operated Sakrison's Hobby and Craft Center in downtown Virginia. Nona was a member of the Pratt-Volden-Mickelson-Anderson American Legion Post # 239 in Virginia, Sons of Norway Haarfager Lodge of Virginia, , Virginia Soroptomists, Virginia Reelers, Gethsemane Lutheran Church and many other business related organizations. Her interests included travel (especially Hawaii), bowling, cooking and dancing.
Nona is survived by her husband of 63 years, Lloyd Sakrison; four children, Lowell (Sandy Stark) Sakrison of Virginia, Dale (Debbi) Sakrison of Cohasset, Jane Chilcote of Iron and Lani (Mark) Bruzek of Duluth; 8 grandchildren, Erikka Stillings, Andrew Sakrison, Kimberly Sakrison, Derek (Sarah) Sakrison, Shaina (Jared) Ostby, Adam Chilcote, Rebecca (Eric) Bruzek and Nicole Bruzek; four great-grandchildren, Kirstyn Sakrison, Kelsey Sakrison, Chloe Nybo and Libby Ostby.
She was preceded in death by her parents Alvin and Della and numerous aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be held at the Bauman Family Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday February 24, 2011 from 12:00 Noon until the 1:000 p.m. Funeral Service. Pastor Lisa Buchanan will officiate. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery. A reception at Edgewood Vista will follow.
