Obituary

Norma Lea Baumgartner, 76 of Virginia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at St. Michael's Health & Rehabilitation Center in Virginia after a brief battle with cancer.

Norma was born April 30, 1937 at the Virginia Municipal Hospital to Rex Turner "RT" and Bessie (Tibbetts) Wingo. When she was seven, Norma was baptized at First Baptist Church in Virginia. At 15, she was introduced to the love of her life, Roger Lee Baumgartner, while she was roller-skating with friends in Eveleth. She graduated from Virginia High School, and on June 18, 1955 married Roger at First Baptist Church. Norma and Roger were blessed with six children, which she considered one of her greatest accomplishments. While Roger worked to provide for their family, Norma raised the children at home. Later in life, Norma worked at McDonald's in Virginia, where she blessed many with her sense of humor and quick wit.

Norma enjoyed motor home trips to Branson, camping with family, gathering on the Fourth of July, and reading mystery novels and medical books. Norma had many special moments with her daughter and best friend Amy. They enjoyed many bus trips and went to the movie theater almost every week. Above all, Norma cherished time spent with loved ones. She will be remembered for her love and devotion to family, her strong Christian faith, endless generosity, and great sense of humor.

Those left to cherish her memory include her devoted husband of nearly 59 years, Roger Baumgartner, Sr. of Virginia; six children, Tab (Susan Schumacher) Baumgartner of Duluth, Ginger (Jeffrey) Parlanti of Grand Rapids, Jill (Roger) Parlanti of Apple Valley, Lisa (John) Sporer of Hibbing, Roger Baumgartner, Jr. of Virginia, and Amy Baumgartner of Virginia; seventeen grandchildren, Sarah (Jeff) Pearson, Daniel Baumgartner, Matthew (Amanda) Baumgartner, Jillian (Corey) Peloquin, Shawn (Leslie) Horton, Elizabeth Baumgartner, Megan (Bryan) Belcher, Samantha (Kevin Jones) Baumgartner, Brittany Horton, Joshua Parlanti, Joseph Baumgartner, Alyssa Horton, Nicole Sporer, Hilary Parlanti, Zachary Parlanti, Kaitlyn Horton, and Mary Baumgartner; great-granddaughters, Emilia and Olivia Pearson; and her special grand dog, Lucky Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents, older brother William Wingo, son-in-law Gene Horton, and her cherished Boston Terriers: Boo, Butch (x2),
Tuffy (x2), Buddy, and Angel.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Friday,
