Norma Lois Johnson, age 77, of Woodbury, MN and formerly of Chicago, IL, Denver, CO, Virginia, MN, and Palo, MN, and Gilbert, MN died Saturday, August 6, 2011 in Regions Hospital in St. Paul. She was born April 6, 1934 in Eveleth, MN the daughter of Richard and Helen (Puurula) Laukkonen. She graduated from Gilbert High School, and went on to attend UMD. She was united in marriage to Melvin Leonard Johnson on September 4, 1954, in the Zion Lutheran Church in Virginia.
Norma worked as an administrative assistant for the ELCA offices in Chicago, and for Harper Community College in Chicago. She was a member of King of Kings Lutheran Church in Woodbury. Norma was also the editor of the Suomi Conference Newsletter for 10 years. She was a gifted seamstress and quilter.
Norma is survived by her husband: Rev. Melvin Johnson; two daughters: Kristin (Ron) Hebrank of Denver, CO, and Dr. Melanie Jane (Dale Larson) Johnson of Minneapolis, MN; a brother: Albert R. (Violet) Laukkonen of Sparta, MN; and a granddaughter: Anna Elizabeth Hebrank.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter: Rebecca; and her sister: Elizabeth.
Visitation will be from 9:30 am until the 11:00 am service Wednesday, August 10, 2011 in the Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church in Virginia. Reverends Nathan Sager, Antti Lepisto, and Gary Terrio will share the privilege of officiants. Burial will be in the Vermilion Lake Township Cemetery. Memorials are preferred and will be directed to charitable organizations.
