Philip M. Block, age 95, of Cohasset and formerly of Grand Rapids and longtime resident of Hibbing, died Monday, December 4, 2017, at Autumn Lane Assisted Living in Cohasset. He was born September 22, 1922, in Bear River, MN, the son of Robert and Ethel (Rothschild) Block. He was a graduate of Bear River High School. A Veteran of the US Army, Phil served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. Phil was united in marriage to Luella Holloway on July 7, 1948, in Dora Lake, MN.
Phil worked as a salesman for Shell Tire in Hibbing – retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Triumphant Life Church in Bovey, and a longtime member of the Hibbing Alliance Church where he was a licensed Pastor. He was a member of Gideon's International. Phil enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, woodworking, fishing, camping, and helping on the farms.
Phil is survived by his wife: Luella; children: Ron (Kathy) Block of Balsam, MN, Don (Shonie) Block of Cambridge, MN, and Todd (Ann) Block of Pengilly, MN; sister: Pat Barsness of Rockford, IL; 17 grandchildren; many great and great-great grandchildren; and numerous extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Don, Robert, Larry, and Bud; and granddaughter: Rebekah Block.
Visitation will be from 3:30 pm until the 4:30 pm Funeral Service Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the Hibbing Alliance Church. Pastor Todd Block will be the officiant. Interment will be at a later date in the Lakeview Cemetery in Coleraine.
