Biography

Ray Albert Ranfranz, age 90 of Virginia died Monday, July 10, 2017 in the Cook Care Center. He was born March 21, 1927 in Rochester, MN the son of Edward and Anna (Hanke) Ranfranz. Ray married Gloria Anderson on January 28, 1950 in Rochester. Ray served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was employed as a mechanical engineer for IBM in Rochester for many years prior to moving to Virginia in the late 1980's. He was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Virginia and the Pratt-Volden-Mickelson-Anderson American Legion Post # 239 in Virginia. Ray enjoyed his hunting dogs and the family duck camp near Wabasha, hunting, fishing, playing horseshoes, cross-country skiing in his earlier years, and loved to go on walks with his canine companion, Otis.

Ray is survived by his son: Allan (Patti) Ranfranz of Virginia; granddaughter: Jessica Mikkelson of Plymouth, MN; extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter: Susan Ranfranz, and wife: Gloria.

A visitation will be held Thursday, July 13, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Bauman-Cron Funeral Home in Virginia. A private, family committal service will take place at a later date at the Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester, MN.
