Raymond McDowell, age 72 of Babbitt, and formerly of Superior, WI died Tuesday, July 16, 2013 in the Ely Bloomenson Community Hospital with his loving family at his side. He was born May 23, 1941 in Chicog, Twp., WI the son of George and Charlotte (Featherly) McDowell, was a graduate of Superior High School class of 1959, and served in the Unites States Marine Corps from 1959 until 1967. Raymond married Patricia Gondik on August 5, 1961 in Superior and they resided in Babbitt from 1961 until moving to Waterville, MN in 1994 and they returned to Babbitt in 2004. He was employed by Reserve Mining Company working on their railroad for 23 years, and later was employed by the DM&E railroad until his retirement in 2004. Raymond enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and all outdoor activities.
Raymond is survived by his children: Steve (Lori) McDowell of Brainerd, Pam (Doug) Maki of Aurora, Kelly (Gary) Stefanich of Oak Creek, WI and Trent (Jill) McDowell of Babbitt; sisters: Adeline (Pete) Peterson, Geraldine (John) Harty, Helen (Clarence) Jones and Gail (Ben) Keup; grandchildren: Josh, Sammi, and Brittney Maki, Brent and Emily Stefanich, Kayla (Matt) Quinn, Kelsey, Ashley, and Stephanie McDowell, and Troy (Kyrstie) Mealey McDowell; 3 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, extended family, a host of friends, and his beloved dog: Rusty.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 46 years: Patricia in 2007; and siblings: George and Leon McDowell, and Betty Undahl.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 19, 2013 from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service in the Woodland Presbyterian Church in Babbitt. Pastor Ben Morgan will officiate. Interment will follow in the Argo Cemetery.
