Obituary


Reed T. Jarrett, age 93, a longtime resident of Hibbing died Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at Essentia Health-Virginia. He was born April 8, 1922, in Attica, IN the son of Jeter and Mary (Reid) Jarrett. He served in the US Navy in WWII in both the American and the Asiatic-Pacific theatres. After his discharge, Reed married Naomi Hinton in Lafayette, IN, on January 3, 1948. They made their home in Attica, IN , Grand Rapids, MN, and Chisholm (Fraser), MN prior to moving to Hibbing in 1972. Reed was employed by US Steel Minntac and retired from the engineering department in 1983. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, a 50+ year member of the Masonic Lodge, Mesaba Country Club, Hibbing Elks Club, Chisholm Dance Club, and was a life member of the VFW Post 8510. Reed enjoyed golfing, gardening, working on his lawn, and being in the sunshine.


Reed is survived by his wife: Naomi; children: Mary Kathleen (Terry) Johns of Maple Grove, MN, Janet Ann (Gary) Southgate of Hibbing, and Jeffery Reed Jarrett of Buhl; and six grandchildren: Kimberly Ann Southgate, Jasmine Mae (Cory) Anderson, Katharine Lynn (TJ) Dollard, Angela Christine (Duane) Meske, April Kay Jarrett, and Charlotte Marie Jarrett; great-grandchildren: Evan, Brayden, Liam, James, Sean, Bexley, Isabel, Savana, Rogella, Elia, Briasa, Autumn, Maya, Reese, and Grayson; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings: Ann, Raymond, Steve, and an infant sister.


The Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 21, 2016 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Hibbing. A gathering time for family and friends will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. Pastor Jim Deters will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Hibbing Park "Maple Hill" Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Wesley United Methodist Church or to the donor's choice.
