Rhoderick John "Rod" McPeak, age 78 of Breitung Township, died Saturday, March 16, 2013 in his home, with is wife by his side. He was born March 12, 1935 in Mason City, IA the son of Donald W. and Grace May (Belmat) McPeak. Rod graduated from Rochester High School and Iowa State University and served in the US Army Signal Corps. He was employed as a Training Coordinator by Dunwoody Institute and a Mechanical Engineer by 3M Company. Rod married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Jean Seldon on June 30, 1957 in Rochester. They made their home in New Jersey and Bloomington, MN prior to moving to Lake Vermilion in 1996. Rod was an active member of St. James Presbyterian Church in Tower and served on its Session. He was an avid supporter and board member of the North St. Louis County Habitat for Humanity, a member of the Tower Lions Club, and the Virginia Rotary Club. Rod was a motorcycle enthusiast and a proud member of the Sundae Riders. He was an accomplished wood craftsman and a wonderful husband and father. Rod's biggest joy in life was spending time with his family.
Rod is survived by his wife: Marge; children: Barbara Jean McPeak of LaCrosse, WI and Tom (Linda) McPeak of Shakopee, MN; grandchildren: Eric John, Megan Jean and Rebecca Jean McPeak; nieces, nephews, extended family, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Son: Robert Bruce "Bob" McPeak; and siblings: Bion McPeak, Douglas McPeak, and Sheila Scobie.
A Gathering time for family and friends will be held Tuesday, March 19, 2013 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. in Bauman's Vermilion Funeral Home in Tower. The gathering will continue Wednesday, from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. Memorial Service in St. James Presbyterian Church in Tower. Pastor Linda McPeak will officiate.
Memorials are preferred and may be directed to North St. Louis County Habitat for Humanity.
