Richard Frederick "Dick" Christopherson, age 91 a lifelong resident of the Virginia area died Monday, October 17, 2011 in St. Michael's Health and Rehabilitation Center in Virginia. Dick was born July 23, 1920 in Virginia the son of Joseph and Ester (Hane) Christopherson. He graduated from Virginia High School, Virginia Community College, and from Dunwoody. Dick enlisted in the US Army during WWII and served in the 108th Infantry and after being wounded several times served with the Signal Corps in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of Operations. He married Alice Rose Maki on June 14, 1952 in Virginia and was employed as a Millwright for J&L Steel. Dick was a member of Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church and sang in the Senior Choir. He was also a lifetime member of the Pratt - Volden - Mickelson - Anderson American Legion Post # 239 and sang with the Northland Singers. He enjoyed spending time with the family at the Sand Lake and later at Dinham Lake in Melrude.
Dick is survived by children: Scott (Terry) Christopherson of Virginia, Vicki (Leonard) Hujanen of Tower, and Curt (Alyce) Christopherson of Virginia; grandchildren: Kiira Christopherson, Tracy Mueller, Scott J. Christopherson, and Joseph Christopherson; great-grandchildren: Aaron Mueller, Kacie Mueller, Renee Christopherson, Lindsey Christopherson, Megan Christopherson, and Ethan Christopherson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Alice in 1981; sister: Janet Ruud; and brothers: Joseph, Jr. and Ralph, Sr.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 20, 2011 in Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastor Lisa Buchanan will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by the Virginia Servicemen's Honor Guard. Inurnment will be in the Melrude Cemetery.
