Richard Jalmer Mattson, 88 of Hibbing, died Wed., Aug. 1, 2018 at Heritage Manor in Chisholm. He was born Feb. 17, 1930 in Hibbing, the son of Jalmer and Signe (Ekloff) Mattson, and was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Lillian. He was a graduate of Hibbing High School and the University of Minnesota. Richard served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He married Patricia Baldwin at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sauk Rapids on Aug. 2, 1958. Richard was a lifelong resident of Hibbing and was employed as a claims adjustor for Mutual Service Insurance. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the Hibbing Curling Club, the Cobb-William-Nehiba American Legion Post # 0222 of Hibbing, and the AmVets Post # 12 of Hibbing. Richard enjoyed curling and he was an avid reader. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his wife: Patricia; sons: Christopher J. (Lisa) Mattson of Rosemount, MN, Kurt R. (Penny) Mattson of Chandler, AZ, and Dirk P. (Melinda) Mattson of San Antonio, TX: granddaughters: Sarah (James) Bockwinkel , Katelyn (Peter) Schoen, Laura (Richard) Popehn, Brittany (Erik) Rima, Emerson Mattson, Ainsley Mattson, and Eva Mattson; 11 great-grandchildren, and friends.

The Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Grace Lutheran Church in Hibbing. Pastor Tim Yearyean will officiate. A gathering time for family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Church. Inurnment will be at the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Sauk Rapids.

Memorials are the preferred way to honor Richard's memory.
