Obituary


Bob Almquist, age 64 of Biwabik died November 5, 2016 while deer hunting. He was born June 28, 1952 in Virginia, the son of Arthur and Lois (Peterson) Almquist. In his early years, he lived in McKinley with is parents and brother, later the family moved to Lakeland. Bob graduated from Horace Mann High School in Biwabik in 1971. He served in the US Army from 1972 to 1974. He was self-employed as an auto body mechanic most of his life, having learned the trade from his father, Art in their shop in Lakeland. He also was employed in the explosives industry for many years, first at Energy Sciences and later at Minnesota Explosives. Bob was an avid outdoorsman. He hunted and fished all of his life. In 1977 he built a hunting shack on the Jim Readdy forest road with his father, lifelong friends, and brother-in-law: Dave. He loved spending his time in the woods hunting, riding ATV and snowmobiles, and fishing on the lakes in Northern Minnesota and Ontario with his friends and son, Eric. He was also a car collector ad owned many classic cars throughout his life. He was a member of the Minnesota Street Machine Association in the late 1970's and the early 1980's.


Bob is survived by his son: Eric (Jennifer Wudinich) and her daughter: Emma; brother: Larry (Joell) Swanson of Denver, CO; brother-in-law: Dave (Sheila) Manthey of Roseau; former wife: Sue Almquist of Embarrass; nephews: Dana Swanson of Denver and Dylan Manthey of Roseau; nieces: Emily (Jesse) Fruetel of Eveleth and Amanda (Jesse) Froseth of Salo, MN; great-nieces: Josie and Abby Fruetel; plus many good friends he made over the years.


He was preceded in death by his parents: Art & Lois Almquist and aunt: Inez Romer.


A Celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at the Biwabik Park Pavilion.
