Robert D. Baldrica, age 80 of Virginia died unexpectedly Saturday, July 16, 2016 in Essentia Health – Virginia. He was born October 10, 1935 in Hibbing, the son of Oreste and Mary (Tramontin) Baldrica, was a 1953 graduate of Chisholm High School and the University of Minnesota – Duluth with a degree in Music Education. Bob married Barbara Olson on July 22, 1961 in Chisholm, and served with the Minnesota National Guard. He taught music in the Eveleth, Lake Park, and Nashwauk-Keewatin School Districts and in 1973 moved to Virginia to manage Schmitt Music. After his retirement in 2002, Bob worked with the Bauman Family Funeral Homes as a Funeral Service Attendant. Bob served as the Band Director for the Keewatin City Band, the Virginia City Band, and the Mesabi Community Band for over 30 years. He was the Co-President of the Arrowhead Concert Association since 1983; was a member of the Pratt - Volden - Mickelson - Anderson Post # 239 American Legion in Virginia, the Virginia Serviceman's Honor Guard, the Eshquagama Country Club, the Sons of Italy Club, and a former member of the Virginia Community Foundation Board, Virginia Lions Club, and the Virginia Elks Lodge. Bob cherished time spent with family, especially his grandkids Carsten and Erika. Bob was a musical ambassador for the city of Virginia, and will always be remembered for his great sense of humor, musical talents, and genuine compassion.


Bob is survived by his wife of 54 years Barbara; children Tom (Tracy) Baldrica of Virginia and Susan (Kurt) Rolling of Bloomington; grandchildren Carsten and Erika; brother Ralph Baldrica of Boise, ID; several nieces and nephews, extended family and many friends.


He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jim Baldrica, and sisters-in-law Elaine and Fran Baldrica.


A Gathering time for family and friends will be held Thursday, July 21, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Virginia. The Memorial Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Father Brandon Moravitz will celebrate the Mass. Military Honors accorded by the Virginia Serviceman's Honor Guard.


In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and may be directed to the Virginia Community Foundation.
