Robert E. Glusica, age 93, lifelong resident of Hibbing died Thursday, January 15, 2014 at the Fairview Medical Center in Hibbing with his family at his side. He was born June 13, 1921 in Carson Lake, MN, the son of Sposo and Yanja (Uzelac) Glusica. He graduated from Hibbing High School. A Veteran of the US Army, Robert served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre during WWII. Robert was united in marriage to Doris J. Hanson on October 26, 1947 in Chisholm, MN.
Robert worked for US Steel as a shovel-runner, retiring after 40 years of service. He was a member of St. Michael's Serbian Orthodox Church, and the VFW. In his retirement he enjoyed working with heavy equipment. He and Doris enjoyed their time wintering in Arizona. He was proud of the fact that up until the time of his death he was able to live independently – mowing the lawn, shoveling snow and driving his own car.
Robert is survived by his children: Robert Glusica of Grand Rapids, MN, Eugene Glusica of Kingman, AZ, Kathy Glusica of Lakeville, MN, David Glusica of Blaine, MN, and Sharon (Larry) Hauskins of Lakeville, MN; his grandchildren: Andrew and Sam Glusica, Angela (Ryan) Stainiger, Carrie (Tony) Thomas, Brian and Aaron Glusica, Ashley Behr, Briana, Jenna, Haley and Grace Lipps, Taylor and Nicole Hauskins; his great-grandchildren: Jack, Miles, Blake and Bennett; his sister: Violet Stimac; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Doris in 2001; two sisters: Mary and Mildred; and three brothers: Michael, Dushon, and Eli.
Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the 11:00 A.M. Funeral Service Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at St. Michael's Serbian Orthodox Church in Hibbing. The Reverend Vladimir Lange will officiate. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
