Robert Lee "Red" Wenz, age 93 of Virginia died Friday, January 9, 2015 in the Hospice Room of Essentia Health – Virginia. He was born August 12, 1921 in Erie Township, Michigan the son of Louis Moses and Gladys (Whitmore) Wenz and was married to June Eleanor Moilanen in Saginaw, MI and resided in Saginaw, Eveleth, MN and Virginia, MN. Red was employed as a mechanic for USS Minntac for 38 years and 9 months; and was a member of the Steelworker's Union Local # 1938. Red was known for his amazing spirit, quick wit, and willingness to lend someone a helping hand.
Red is survived by children: Gary (Linda) Wenz of Green Valley, AZ and Susan Wenz of St. Paul; brother: Howard Wenz of Bay City, MI; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: June; and siblings: Ray & George Wenz, Edna Hinger, and Betty Holton.
A Gathering of family and friends to celebrate Red's life will be held at a later date.
