Obituary


Ronald Vernon Mayry, age 78, lifelong resident of Iron, MN, died Wednesday, August 03, 2011, in his home. He was born July 5, 1933 in Iron the son of Elias and Ailie (Mannisto) Mayry. He graduated from Cherry High School where he scored the first touchdown in school history. A veteran of the US Army, Ron served in Europe during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Muriel Hansen on October 27, 1956 in Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Hibbing.
Ron was proud to have never been without work since he was 18 years old. Among his many jobs he was a constable and a volunteer fireman for Clinton Twp., a bus driver and janitor for ISD #710, he was a mail carrier for the USPS for 30 years, and he owned and operated Keenan Excavating. Ron was an active member of Faith United Lutheran Church. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren grow up and participate in their events. Ron also liked to check-up on the folks in the neighborhood.
Ron is survived by his wife: Muriel; children: Maureen (Glen) Arola of Mt. Iron, Lynn (John) Asuma of Cherry, David Mayry of Chippewa Falls, WI, Dianne (Roger) Sistad of Iron, Brenda (Jerry) Greenly of Iron, Andrea (Tom) Kozumplik of Iron, Pete Mayry of Farmington, MN, and Daniel Mayry of Iron; 21 grandchildren: Amanda, Kristin, Jaclyn, Jean, Jolene, Jay, Samantha, Ronald, Monica, Jessica, Anna, Paul, April, Chad, Joshua, Travis, Tyler, Casie, Carrie, Madilyn, and Keagan; 15 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers: Jerry Mayry of Iron, Robert (Jean) Mayry of Hibbing, and Tom (Linda) Mayry of Iron; a sister: Sandra (Dennis) Farden of Iron; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother: Dick.
Visitation will be from 6 – 8pm Friday, August 5, 2011, and will continue from 12:00 noon until the 1:00 pm service Saturday, August 6, 2011 all in the Faith United Lutheran Church in Iron. The Reverend Janeva Stromberg will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in the Forbes Cemetery.
