Roxanne Darlene Ostendorf, 57 of Virginia, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2014 peacefully at her home after a hard fought battle with cancer.
Roxanne was born February 12, 1957 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota the firstborn daughter of Ralph and JoAnn (Moss) Thiel. She grew up in Babbitt and graduated from Babbitt High School in 1975. That same year she had the honor of being Miss Babbitt. She attended Eveleth Vo-Tech for secretarial and graphic art. On April 25, 1981, Roxanne and Harold Ostendorf were joined in holy marriage at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Babbitt. Their marriage was blessed with three beautiful sons, Chris, Matt, and Ryan.
She was a waitress for several years at various restaurants, later employed by FingerHut, and a paraprofessional working with autistic and special needs children. Roxanne's favorite color was pink and loved hearts. She had a passion for her flower gardens which always had a variety of pink and many heart shaped plant hangers. She was a loyal fan of her boys' sports and wouldn't miss a game. She cherished time with her family and made many trips to Missouri to spend time with her greatest treasure ever...the precious girl she waited for...her granddaughter Ella Grace. She was a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church and was an active member in volunteer efforts for the monthly angel program.
Roxanne lived her life to the fullest with the most important thing in life being her faith, family, and friends. Her motto was "Today is a Gift." She will forever be remembered and dearly missed by all her family and friends. She is survived by her loving husband Harry of 32 years; children Dr. Christopher Ostendorf and wife Amber, Matthew Ostendorf, Ryan Ostendorf; precious granddaughter Ella Ostendorf; father, Ralph Thiel, brother Jeff Thiel, sisters Liz Brusehaver and Jean Enrooth, brother Kelly Thiel; her in-laws, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
