Obituary

Roy E. Johnson, age 81 of Virginia, died Tuesday, November 27, 2012 in his home. He was born July 9, 1931 in Proctor, MN the son of Olaf and Edith (Anderson) Johnson; was a graduate of Proctor High School class of 1949 and Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. Roy was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean War; and married Eleanor S. Kjellman on July 31, 1954 in Proctor. They made their home in Minneapolis and Duluth prior to moving to Virginia in 1959. Roy was employed by IBM as a customer service engineer for 33 years, retiring in 1987. He was a four time recipient of the prestigious "IBM Means Service Award". Roy enjoyed fishing, carpentry, oil painting, travelling, camping, and cooking. He was a wonderful husband and father who cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Roy is survived by his wife of 58 years: Eleanor (nee Kjellman) Johnson; children: Brett F. (Susan) Johnson of Esko, Evelyn (Richard Kinnunen) Lahti of Virginia, and Eric (Patty) Johnson of St. Bonifacius, MN; grandchildren: Sarrah (Rich) Steiner, Alison (Nathan) Andreasen, Bradley (Amanda) Lahti, Rainee (Eric) Buscko, Erin (Troy Hancock) Lahti, Austin Johnson, and Cassie Johnson; great-grandchildren: Tristan, Jacob, Carter, Elliette, Preston, and Kellan; sister: Dorothy Wilson of West Bend, WI; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings: Olaf, John, Wilfred, Alfred, Edward, Raymond, Gertrude, Carrie, and Ruth.
