Roy W. Northey age 86, passed away December 22, 2013 in Keystone Bluffs Assisted Living Center in Duluth. He was born on March 14, 1927 in Virginia, Minnesota, the son of Roy W. and Berenice (Popko) Northey, Sr. Roy was a Veteran of WWII serving in the Pacific Combat Theatre on Okinawa. He was a life member of the V.F.W. and of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks. He worked as a professor at UMD for many years and as the superintendent of schools in various districts.
Roy is survived by brother: Richard (Lois) Northey; nieces, Lynne Northey, Sandy (Mark) Bauler, Judi (Mike) Eltgroth; and many grand nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents Roy Sr. and Berenice Northey.
Roy's niece, Sandy Bauler, was his caretaker for his final years and wishes to express deep gratitude to the staff at Keystone Bluffs Assisted Living and the Essentia Hospice care nurses for the attentive, loving and generous care they provided to her uncle.
Interment and a graveside service will be held at a later date at Calvary Cemetery, Virginia, Minnesota.
